Flowers and City Skylines

Dear Reader,
There is something beautiful about the ocean at night- something enchanting in the way you can look out to the indistinguishable horizon, where you know the sky and the water meet even though you cannot see it, and wonder.
It was a pale dawn morning, and I had just returned home from the ocean, the image of the ship lights suspended over the black depths still burning in my mind. As I approached the city, I waded through a sea of wildflowers, pretending I was a diver, walking the ocean floor. Mountains rose behind me, home just ahead. I could barely contain my excitement, for soon, I would be able to see my friends.

I want to tell you about them. They are my team of explorers: Owl, Bluebird, Danny Sherwood, Trevor, and the Sky Lizard.
I met Owl a number of years ago on a train. He actually encouraged me to become an explorer. He taught me how to read maps and navigate by the stars. We went on our first expedition together in a hot air balloon called the Discovery. On this same expedition, we met the Sky Lizard and Bluebird.
It wasn't until much later that I met Danny Sherwood. Danny is an artist. I have yet to see him without his sketchbook and pencil. He is very shy and lives in a town just south of the city, where he set up a bicycle repair shop. Trevor is his apprentice.

What is with all of these introductions, you may be wondering? Reader, I am starting this journal to keep a record of our adventures and discoveries. We set off again soon. Who knows what's out there?

Fair Traveling,
the Explorer
